Early Adopters in the EU xShare Open Call

Data sharing at DataLife HIS, compliant to the EU Electronic Health Record Exchange Format - EEHRxF

xShare Yellow Button

Ergobyte has been selected through the xShare open call to build a real-world implementation of the "Yellow Button", a European initiative that lets patients carry their health data with them, securely and in one click.

xShare is a Horizon Europe project working to expand the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) in support of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). Being selected puts Ergobyte among a small group of vendors across Europe trusted to demonstrate what EHDS-ready data portability looks like in practice.

DataLife Hospital Information System (HIS) has already been implemented in 45 healthcare settings across Greece, including general hospitals, rehabilitation centers and elder care homes. The Yellow Button has been build in DataLife patient portal, where patients or their relatives can log in, review their recent medical record entries and export a summary of them. This summary is called "International Patient Summary (IPS)", a format compliant to EU standards. The IPS can be downloaded directly, shared via a time-limited link, or exchanged as a SMART Health Link QR code.

There are a lot of patients who move between care settings, for example for an emergency visit, a transfer from hospital to rehabilitation or dialysis center. With the IPS, their medical history travels with them instead of getting lost, re-transcribed or requested all over again. For clinicians, it means less time spent re-entering data at the next point of care and fewer of the errors that come with it. And because the system creates positive pressure for more complete, structured record-keeping, data quality improves — not just for the patients who use the Yellow Button, but for everyone.

Built on Real Interoperability. Not Just a Checkbox.

DataLife HIS didn't arrive at this open call as a newcomer to standards work. For over 20 years we've built health software and we made an early strategic decision to work closely with HL7 to track developments around EHDS and EEHRxF as they emerged.

The Yellow Button implementation reflects that groundwork directly. Health data is aggregated from our EHR and formatted as HL7 FHIR Resources, fully aligned with multiple IHE profiles. Rather than relying on our own assurances, conformance is being tested and validated independently through the IHE Gazelle platform. In parallel, we're engaging directly with the vendor community at IHE Europe Connectathons to ensure our output is interoperable with as many other systems as possible.

This is deliberate. It's not enough to follow one integration guide on paper. Real interoperability means your system actually works with everyone else's. That's why we test against independent suites and take part in the standards community itself, instead of just checking boxes on our own.
