IHE Plugathon 2025

Our developers participated in the IHE-Europe Connectathon Week in Vienna

IHE-Europe Plugathon 2025

Ergobyte took part in IHE Plugathon 2025, held in Vienna from June 23 to 25, 2025, as part of the IHE-Europe Connectathon Week. This international event is addressed to digital health developers and focuses on the hands-on implementation of interoperability standards in medical software.

The main objective of our participation was to further train our team of developers in the use of standards such as IHE profiles and FHIR, with the ultimate goal of integrating them into both our commercial solutions and our research initiatives. During the Plugathon, Ergobyte’s developers explored interoperability practices and had the opportunity to apply new techniques in real-world scenarios.

The Significance of Interoperability in Health IT

Interoperability is the ability of two or more systems to share data and operate cohesively, regardless of their underlying technology. It is made possible by using common standards that define how data is formatted and exchanged. Interoperability serves as a cornerstone of modern, high-performing software systems - particularly in the healthcare sector. When implemented effectively, it allows for continuous data flow between different healthcare facilities. Direct and timely access to health data by medical professionals plays a critical role in:

  • Preventing errors and improving the quality of services
  • Avoiding duplicate tests that add cost and burden to the patient
  • Creating public health policies based on real-world population data

Interoperability in IRHIS Project

The IRHIS Project, titled “Interoperable Remote Health Innovation brought to Scale”, aims to establish the first EU-wide Advanced Remote Care Demonstration Chain. Ergobyte, is a key technical partner in the DemoScale Lab 2, focussing on neurological disorders. Its main role is to make sure that all involved technologies, including wearables, apps and sensors, interconnect with each other and exchange data seamlessly. The success of IRHIS relies heavily on interoperability, which allows for smooth data exchange across all connected devices and systems.

In today’s digital landscape, the seamless communication between two systems is far from guaranteed. It requires deep knowledge of interoperability standards and a shared commitment among all stakeholders to work toward this common goal.

At Ergobyte, interoperability is not just a technical requirement, it is a strategic priority. We continuously invest in the integration of international standards, so that our solutions — such as Datalife HIS — can actively contribute to the overall quality and effectiveness of health systems.
